Cette ascension marque le début de l'alpinisme au XVIIIe siècle : Gabriel-Michel Paccard (médecin), et Jacques Balmat (chasseur), relèvent le défi de Horace Bénédict de Saussure qui promettait une récompense au premier qui atteindrait le sommet du mont Blanc.

What a beautiful photograph. I didn't know that this was the anniversary of the first ascent of Mont Blanc. How brave those men were, mountain climbing was so dangerous then when they had no special clothes or equipment. I hope the reward was a generous one.
